Having missed the
Redesigning Business Summit I favoured second best and found some interesting pieces on the site (on Vimeo too):
Economists and Design
In this short film Robin Bew, Chief Economist of the Economist Intelligence Unit, and Sir George Cox, Former Chairman of the Design Council, discuss how design thinking will aid the post-recession recovery.

Unfortunately The Design Council wouldn’t let me embed this video.
However, the image is a link to the page on Vimeo.
There are a couple of things I find interesting in this video: one, his opinion that we in the UK could be left behind, economically, by the rest of the world and become a theme park nation; and two, when he talks about the lack of aspiration and risk-aversion many small businesses have.
I don’t think the former is ever likely to happen. UK design is a rich and thick seam with many forthright personalities with intelligence. However, the bulk of design firms are small businesses employing ten people or less. I imagine a lot of those companies have suffered over the last eighteen months and are understandably risk-averse. That said, innovation is going to mean a lot to some companies over the next ten years.
